IBM 729 / 1959

The IBM 729 Magnetic Tape Unit was IBM’s iconic tape mass storage system from the late 1950s through the mid­-1960s. Part of the IBM 7 track family of tape units, it used magnetic tape up to 2400 feet long, which was wound on reels of up to 10.5 inches.
