Convair F2Y Sea Dart / 1953

Credited with the accolade to have been the only seaplane to have flown into supersonic speeds, the Convair F2Y-1 was perhaps one of Convair’s least improbable concepts of its many. With its distinctive colour scheme and graphic camera-tracking markings, the F2Y attempted to provide an answer to the difficult-at-the-time carrier based landings, but after some notable incidents and power issues, the concept was shelved.
