Boeing X-20 ‘Dyna-Soar’ / 1957

A portmanteau of ‘Dynamic Soarer’ the X-20 represents the USAF’s earliest thinking of manned, reusable spacecraft. Designed for multi-role missions, from bombing space rescue, and space interceptor, the X-20 would be launched atop a rocket, much like the spacecraft development of the time but would glide to earth under a pilot’s control.
